David Bowie on Soul Train (1975)

David Bowie was accorded the honour of being the first white music artist ever invited to perform on Soul Train. The show was written and hosted by Don Cornelius, and Directed by Sid McCoy. It was filmed in Los Angeles, California and was episode no.165, of season no.5. It was first broadcast on the WCIU-TV station, channel 26, on 4th November 1975.

David Bowie used the opportunity to promote the film The Man Who Fell To Earth, his latest single Golden Years and his first US no.1 hit single, Fame. Somewhat awed by the occasion Bowie had been drinking to calm his nerves before the show. Interviewed by Don Cornelius, Bowie spoke thickly with disconnected sentences and gave less than a convincing lip-sync performance of his songs! Other guests on the same episode were Faith, Hope & Charity and Jeff Perry.
